Topic: How to get motivation to do school work.

Anonymous 1e818c386f746133706b86c9b0832aa5 started this discussion 3 months (2008-08-20 15:09:31 UTC) ago:

I can't seem to get the motivation to do homework.

I'm just so apathetic but unless I can kick my butt into gear I'll probably fail the year.

What are some tricks or ways to get my motivation back?

Or something to get me doing the homework again.

I actually need help with this too :P So, Good luck. The only thing I can think of is that you just try and have in mind what you will benifit from not failing and try to do the best with what you've got. Good luck, Anon.

I have a different approach. Make a penalty/reward system, and maybe get others to help you enforce it. For doing homework, you give yourself a reward, but if you neglect your homework, you punish yourself.

Make a rule to yourself: You cannot fap before all homework is done.

get a part time job, a really shitty one.. you will work there for low pay and probably despise the work. Then when you get home and don't feel like studying remind yourself that if you don't work hard and study the odds are increased that you could end up working the job you hate for the rest of your life, works for me anyway.

Some people can motivate themselves, some can't. If you find that you can't, don't pin it down as laziness or poor character. I have ADD, and that's the main reason I couldn't motivate myself to do homework. Now that I understand my condition better, I don't have that problem anymore. If you find that this is a major problem for you, go pick up a book on ADD and see what you can do. It can really turn your life around.

I don't think I'd have ADD.

Could be related to another disorder though, maybe?

Depression, mood disorder or something on those lines.

You'd be surprised, I still recommend that you consider the possibility that you have ADD. I wish I did when I was in high school. I don't know anything about you, but I doubt it's depression, not a lot of people have that problem.

Do you have a hard time doing your homework, or do you struggle with it? I know that it's a lot easier to motivate myself to do homework if it's something I can understand and work out. If the homework is obscure or frustrating, I'll have a harder time getting around to doing it.

Still don't know about ADD. I haven't always had problems concentrating. Like I was an A student, now I'm on the verge of failing.

It's not hard work by any means. I just can't seem to do it. And if I ever do it's so rushed, I might just not bother.

But I do have more trouble getting around to frustrating homework. Like using Flash in Design and Technology. It's all fiddly stuff, not hard just frustrating and time consuming . For hours of work you only get a couple of seconds or so. But don't most people do what they like/less frustrating first?

I have a problem getting stuff done early. I always say there's more time, even on the last day.

Well, you could try to set up some sort of third person obligation. For example, motivating yourself to study for something is hard. If you have a study group though, it's not as hard because you now have an obligation to your friends to do something. Maybe you could set up something similar. For small assignments it would be pointless. It would work better on large projects, papers, and that sort of thing though.

Try not using the computer or watch the television for a week.
Hopefully you'll learn to use the time for homework and even maybe get out more.
