> Microsoft has signed up comedian Jerry Seinfeld to its $300 million Vista PR blitz, as it attempts to turn around the negative perception surrounding its operating system. >> The strategy of signing up high profile comedians is a path already well trodden by Apple, which has scored a number of hits on its arch-rival with its "I'm a PC…" advertisements fronted by John Hodgman and Justin Long in the US and Mitchell and Webb in the UK. >> The Mac campaign particularly incensed Bill Gates who described it as "dishonest", but it now looks like the former Microsoft boss is ready to strike back. >> Details of Seinfeld's role are sketchy but reports suggest Gates will also appear in the ads, which given the comedy timing he displayed in his "Bill's Last Day" video, and the deadpan manner of Seinfeld could result in a huge hit for the company.>> Microsoft is reportedly paying Seinfeld $10 million for his role which will focus on the slogan "Windows, Not Walls," and will stress the need to "break down barriers that prevent people and ideas from connecting." >> The advertising campaign follows on from the recent Mojave experiment which attempted to prove that Vista's biggest problem is perception, rather than actual flaws.http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/220605/microsoft-enlists-seinfeld-in-vista-battle.html Advertisement: Feeling stupid? Personally, I think they should focus more on the older market instead of trying to make Vista "hip". Kids and teenagers are never going to think anything made by Microsoft is hip or cool. Meanwhile, they could play off of the dependable, reliable image portrayed in Apple's ads to score an older demographic. The marketing strategy they're trying will fail because instead of portraying their competitor as a fad for elitist, snotty teenagers and young adults, they're trying to become the fad for elitist, snotty teenagers and young adults by making their GUI a copy off of OSX and trying to make Vista appear "cool", something Microsoft can never be. They need to play to their strengths.

@53,066ROTFLMAO! Of course you do. And you run a computer repair shop too? No, I see no conflict of interest there…
The only ones who like Vista are Microsoft sales-droids, people who don't actually use their $2,000 solitaire machine for anything else, and apparently Anontalk's sysop who was offended enough to remove my earlier post. LOL, I apologize of my excessive mirth caused you any grief. I thought that by formatting the text so it didn't break the page would keep me from your ire but …well the deletion speaks for itself.
Vista is an overpriced hack job that somehow manages to break nearly every part of Windows. Whereas something would once take one or two clicks, now a user must navigate several "helpful" wizards and go in circles taking multiple clicks to accomplish something as basic as seeing network properties. Printing is a joke. Needing well over a gig just to comfortably run the OPERATING SYSTEM? Priceless! Meanwhile Vista adds absolutely nothing to the Customer that XP didn't accomplish on less resources.
It's broken. Mojave is a failed joke. Our systems are fine, they can run Windows XP, Windows 2000, Multiple distros of Linux, hell even MacOSX86 without breaking a sweat. Vista? Not so good. It's the Operating System, stupid! You know—that framework that needs to load up quickly and then GET OUT OF MY WAY SO I CAN RUN SOME ACTUAL PROGRAMS? Yeah that thing. Maybe you forgot about that while meddling in markets that don't want you, like say the Zune and XBOX markets—which you're still losing money on!
As much as I like Jerry Seinfeld his hiring as a spokesperson is a clear sign of how badly Microsoft management fails to understand how badly they've stumbled and indicates how backwards their understanding of the times. HINT: Seinfeld ended quite awhile ago Balmer. Next time try to get someone more contemporary…

Yes, getting to see my network properties was ridiculously lengthy and damn it to hell, I won't put up with this shit! I stick with vista however because I am too lazy to install linux to multi-boot as I chose vista for dx10 and only dx10, even though dx10 is shit.

@53,265@_@' Wait, what?
For fuck's sake dude pirate yourself a copy of XP corporate if you're that scared of Linux\don't have supported hardware. There's no reason to put up with the shit that is Vista. No reason to be wasting more than half your available RAM just to support the operating system!
As far as I know there aren't any games out yet that actually require DirectX to function—even Halo can run on XP using "alky" compatibility runtimes! Why stick with Vista for the dubious privilege of running DirectX when most games are still released for XP and run on DirectX 9? Never mind the performance penalty you get simply because of the overhead of running Vista itself…
There's very little (I actually can't think of anything) that can't be done on XP which requires Vista to do. The Sidebar—you can run the actual Vista sidebar on XP using the alky runtimes mentioned above. Visual task tips, ViStart, and numerous other third party apps can give you the eyecandy of Vista, with the bonus of being able to turn them all off (and I mean REALLY turned off) when you start up your favorite games.
What can Vista offer you that you can't do in XP?

@53,683The ability to open Notepad and have your computer lock up while wallowing in its own shit like a 2 year old that messed itself while it figures out how to handle running anything that takes more than 2 KB of memory.
