Got ahold of a Dell C840 Latitude and a very similar Inspirion model to test, but no power supply to go with. Replacement ones ran from 40 to 60 bucks from official sites, so I found a reputable ebay seller and got one for under $20. Problem is shipping will take quite awhile and I really want to start testing them now.

After scouring the house I found a power supply for an old Colorbook laptop. It has the appropriate connector…but slightly different power output than the Dells say they need.

Power supply-

"19 volts
2.22 amps
43 watts Max"

Sticker on laptops-

"20 volts
4.5 amps"

Can I use the supply anyhow, if I leave out the batteries? (so it doesn't pull extra juice trying to recharge them) For short periods? At all?
