I'm going to write an open-source video sharing application. Will YouTube have grounds to sue me if I imitate their visual style?

Tons of sites already have. The real question is why you would want to imitate such a crappy, bloated piece of shit design.

Do you have any idea how easy it is to simply alter a few minor details to avoid things like this? Change a few colors, round or straighten some corners, and there you go. Brand new design. They can't sue you for having a flash-based media hosting website. They can only sue you for basically copying them exactly.
