Because after watching Obama's speech I think I am becoming a democrat myself. When I was watching his speech, it made me think that America could finally get back to the way it was when Bill Clinton was president. For people that still hates Bill because of the entire stupid "cheating on his wife" scenario. Please just shut the fuck up already, the country was in a better condition when Bill was president then it was with Bush. Anyways, are there any people here that are beginning to support Obama?

I did not like Bill as a President. He really didn't seem to do anything important, at all. It might seem as though America was better during his term, but that was all the long-term effects of what Reagan and Bush Sr. had done in the past. He messed up the changes made those years ago, and their effects can be felt in Bush Jr.'s two terms. You need to realize that four tiny years is not enough to make much of a difference in the economy. It took eight years to just begin to get America headed in the right direction, then Bill came along and messed things up.

I usually don't like to base my decisions on "republican" or "democrat," but I'd say that I'm more of a republican.

Then why the hell are we in Iraq in the first place? Obama said he wanted to go after the people who did 9/11 and the terrorists that caused it. Including Osama Bin Laden, could you remind me why we are in a stupid war to get an angry dictator which could have been done when daddy Bush was in office in the first place? I am beginning to look forward to my American Politics class in my senior year now.

Yeah, I would have to say that I don't have a single fucking clue what we're doing in Iraq. I could give you possible theories, but they're all probably wrong. I'm less satisfied with Bush Jr., but that still doesn't mean that Bill was a great President. Don't let the teacher's opinions cloud your own, they often have very strong ones.

I am a registered independent, and I will always be a registered independent. Currently we have a system where I am obligated to vote for the lesser of two evils, because no candidate who could bring real independent change to this country has a chance in hell due to our corrupt two party system and our general population's utter apathy towards the entire world of politics. I'm not really certain what I think of Obama, but I can tell you I'm sure as hell not voting McCain. He was a miserable soldier. He graduated at the very bottom of his class in Naval academy, 895th of 900, and was only accepted into the military because his father and grandfather were both four-star admirals. He crashed multiple jets over his career due to being such an incompetent pilot, and was rumored to have been the cause behind the "freak accident" aboard the USS Forrestall that killed over 130 sailors. While he was away at war, which for him was sitting around for 6 years— miserable, but alive and out of danger— in a prison camp while thousands of soldiers fought and died outside, his beautiful model wife got into a car accident and lost her beauty. When he came back he was disgusted with her, cheated on her several times, then eventually divorced her to marry his mistress and current wife, a very wealthy heiress to the Anheuser-Busch fortune. His reprehensible character aside, I disagree with him on the issues. He's pro-preemptive war, pro-life, and anti-gay.

If you're deciding your vote based on one charistmatic speech or because of what a smear campaign makes you think about them, you should probably just stay home instead. I'm all for democracy, but allowing people to vote who have absolutely no real idea how the system works and who don't have the slightest clue as to the issues that a candidate believes and what they aim to change, but instead vote strictly based on major party affiliation, is a fatal flaw. Candidates should be chosen by their character as a person, and for the things that they (and you) believe in so strongly that they would fight to protect or change. Voting should be a privilege, not a right.

Thank you very much, dear anon. As a inhabitant of a non-USA country, I'm not able to watch the debates/speeches on TV, simply because they aren't broadcasted on dutch channels. Your post made me have a much better insight on McCain. As I'm mostly a right-wing person, I'd never vote for McCain. Especially since I've seen a couple of video's on youtube where he simply doesn't know his answers and should get his shit straight ( waiting 40 seconds to answer a question, a lot of "uhhhmmm"'s ). As for Obama, I believe he has what it takes to be the president. The speeches I did see from him, are very strong, yet I've also seen a couple of contradictions in both - just to get votes ( gay marriage vs
Christian voters ).

The American election system is like a fucking high school popularity contest.
It's refreshing to see Obama put the politics first and refuse to resort to slandering like his opponent does.

I'm a Social Democrat, which means I'll vote for a Democrat over a Republican any day. I'm pro-gun though and I think universal healthcare is a little unrealistic at the time, but ideal. I'm pro-death penalty because I believe that if there are people out there who deserve to die, then the state should oblige. In terms of the economy, we got to bring back jobs to America and put a fucking leash on our corporations who could give two shits about the people. Call me a commie if you will, if you knew how many manufacturing jobs have left this country, then you'd know how I feel about it. The Republicans are about keeping the rich rich and regressing our morality back to victorian levels. The Democrats may not be the perfect party, hell they may not even be an efficient or effective part, but if there is going to be any progress in this country, it's going to come from a Democrat. I'm voting for Obama this November.

I've got a different line of thinking. If you give money to the rich, they will create more jobs. If you give money to the poor, then…? Besides, if some of those companies hadn't shipped their jobs overseas, they'd be dead right now, and we'd have even less jobs. We're now competing in a global market, if we don't ship some jobs overseas we'll be disadvantaging ourselves a lot. I know what you mean though, I live in Michigan and everything is falling apart.
