Yes, it sucks ass, but they don't seem to have any idea why. They just hate it because it's "in". I tried it four different times wholeheartedly on my own hardware. Simply couldn't stand it. However, I would probably be running it anyway, forcing myself to like it (like with XP), if it only had a single version instead of five billion different ones. Possibly. That is one of the major turn-offs about that OS for me.
I am convinced that tons people would actually start jumping in front of trains if that became "in"…

Of course they would. Several years back, I held the hope that the internet might halt the 'herd mindset' so ingrained in today's youth. I thought it might help them research their own sources, and become critical consumers who don't take shit from anyone.
Just look at the internet today and try not to cry.
As for Vista, I had some initial problems with a new PC, which I found out stemmed from a faulty BIOS. So Vista was not at fault.
Apart from eating a SHITLOAD more resources than XP, I haven't had any major complaints about Vista so far. It sucks that its improvements are so incrementally small when compared to XP, but I spose M$ will not find themselves without serious competition forever. Open-source solutions are also becoming much more user-friendly and will definitely make a dent in the market once they pick up.

Vista is shit… every time i've seen someone with it, they always have that shitty version which is basically a resource hogging pretty XP. I remember hating XP when i switched from Windows 98 though. Now i like XP. It isn't too reliable but it's completely familiar.

@57,392> Vista is shit"In my opinion, Vista is shit."
> they always have that shitty version which is basically a resource >hogging pretty XP.So…practically any version, then? All but the most entry-level copy comes with the ability to use Aero Glass and that's just a theme, you can turn it off if you want. Also, Vista isn't much more resource hungry than XP, it just manages memory differently. It's dynamic, so when the memory's necessary it frees it up. If anything, Vista's memory handling is more like what Linux uses.
> Now i like XP. It isn't too reliable but it's completely familiar.XP's a great OS as well and is extrememly stable on a maintained system. If it's unreliable for you, you'd do well to look for hardware malfunctions, poorly written drivers and malware.

Vista is a perfect example of how when Apple Computers are going from strength to strength in terms of market share, quality of products and impact on culture Microsoft are yet again showing themselves up for what they are, a failing company whose only strength is an ever decreasing monopoly which was gained illegally to start off with.

@57,397Let's keep Apple out of this discussion, else it will just turn into another Mac vs PC flame thread.

If anything, I am simply reluctant to try it, I'm not being critical of it so to speak, I just simply don't want to end up wasting my money.
Has anyone heard of that experiment that Windows tried, where they got a group of people to try a "new product"? They were actually using Windows Vista but under a different name, most of the people in the group actually approved.
(The commercial also said that they weren't acting, I forgot to read the fine print however, my apologies go to the General Consensus if this is regarded as a "troll reply".)

@57,401Yeah, they give them a top of the line PC with Vista Ultimate (or whatever the best version is), packed with tons of programs. And then when they go to buy an actual PC, they get a shitty Vista Home edition with useless apps.

@57,404I shall keep an eye out for the aforementioned commercial, and update this subject ASAP.
(back to the subject at hand)
I am pretty sure that this subject could be expanded to "ignorance" pissing people off, I say that's how most historical blunders/massacres really get started; look at Charles Manson, luring the fall-outs of the counter-culture's youth to do his bidding, and Adolf Hitler, convincing an entire nation that all of their financial problems from World War I were all because of some rich Jews.

The aforementioned "commercial" is known as the "Mojave experiment".
That should help you find it.

> "The experiment has been criticized for cherry-picking positive statements and not addressing all aspects of Vista (which may have uncovered problems). For example, users did not have to install Vista and the necessary hardware was already setup for them, thus bypassing any criticisms of hardware and licensing cost. Participants weren't asked to work with peripheral devices (such as printers or scanners), nor were they asked about compatibility with older software or hardware.[3] Participants did not have an opportunity to try the software themselves[4] but were only demonstrated certain features by a salesman.[5] Another area of concern is that part of the experiment was for Microsoft to specifically choose people who have never seen Vista before, indicating that the subjects chosen did not have a firm basis for making decisions. Additionally, there have been concerns that many of the problems that Vista has become apparent after long-term use, while the testers were only exposed to Vista for a short period of time"

Just from personal experiance, I have two computers my gaming Pc that after i built it i put vista on, and my laptop that i use for research work. As far as surfing the internet and doing research i have had no problems with vista. On my gaming computer it was a diffrent story. I found it glitchy and very slow running. I ultimatly ended up downgrading to xp on my gaming computer. So In my opinion it pretty much a case by case choice. It ultimatly will come down to your opinion and what you aredoing on the computer. I hope this is helpful everyone.

There's no point of Vista. If anything, it should use resources MUCH more effieciently than it's previous OS. It brings nothing new to the table aside from fancy visuals. My first use of Vista was completely terrible. I was at a friends hosue, we booted up his brand new Vista PC for the first time, i don't remember the specs exactly but it was something like 4 gigs of ram, 3.7 ghz processor (i don't know anything about what cards he had installed) and the dissapointments came one after another.
The first was that with his version, the video desktop background was ommited. In the site we were looking at, there was a lovely waterfall, easing along a path, it looked very nice. The next problem was that when we tried to install his scanner, the PC just went bonkers and 4 different errors popped up…

Yes, yes, they would. Every time I notice shit like this Vista hating trend, all I can say is "I hate the fucking world." If you try to explain this kind of trend to normal people, they just act like you are arguing with them and brush off your point that they're acting like a mindless sheep. God damn. This all reminds me of Politics, lol.

@57,461Is it really Vistas fault that he didn't buy Vista Ultimate to get video wallpapers?
Is it really Vistas fault that the scanner manufacturer didn't create proper drivers?
No, of course not. Just because you tried Vista once and a shitty scanner didn't have proper drivers doesn't mean Vista is horrible.
