> Samsung has said that it sees the Blu-ray format only lasting a further 5 years before it is replaced by another format or technology. >> "I think it [Blu-ray] has 5 years left, I certainly wouldn't give it 10", Andy Griffiths, director of consumer electronics at Samsung UK told Pocket-lint in an interview. >> Hoping to capitalise before it's too late, Griffiths believes that 2008 is the format's year. >> "It's going to be huge", he told Pocket-lint. "We are heavily back-ordered at the moment." >> Citing online rental sites like LoveFilm's adoption of Blu-ray titles, the move to offer cheaper players and a now clear path to adoption following the Blu-ray HD DVD battle, Griffith says the format will be a winner, although not for long.http://www.pocket-lint.co.uk/news/news.phtml/17399/18423/samsung-blu-ray-5-years-left.phtml Advertisement: Do you like AT? I think it's clear that the next 'format' is going to be no format at all.
That is to say, direct download via high-bandwidth broadband. You're already seeing it happen.

Yeah, well, not in my fucking town with the prices we pay for internet service. Anyway, I only started buying DVDs a couple of years ago, and that's all I need. I buy a lot of classic television shows that obviously aren't high definition to start with, and the cost per hour of entertainment can be pretty low, especially when Amazon has a sale, as they do now.

I kinda think digital downloards are what's coming too. Unfortunately I have seen a lot of news lately on paying for bandwidth usage - caps on downloads, extra fees for going over, etc. If digital downloads are the future, then I am a bit scared.
That and I like having the shopping experience and actually having a case to hold.

If digital downloads are what is coming next, I will be an exclusive pirate for sure. I never buy something that is not tangible. Common sense.
I pretty much pirate everything in any case except for games I want to play multiplayer on (very few and far between, luckily for me) and some band's cds if they are just starting out, unsigned, etc., and I like their music.

@57,552I live in australia, and we get download limits, caps, shaping, prices for going over. Always have, and most likely will have for a very long time.
Shit sucks
