I recently asked the police to send me database output from their crime records (wanna work with children and they need to see that I am not a sex-crazed pedophile who molests every child that I see). Since I was already doing that, I also requested a general output to see if I have any police records registered. Just to still my curiosity.
I got back a letter saying that IF I have any crimes registered, they will attach a database output on a separate page. I didn't get any such attachement, which apparently means that they don't have anything on me. According to the paper, they do it this way specifically to NOT let me use this as a proof to anyone but myself that I haven't been convicted of any crimes. They don't explain WHY they do this, though…
Can somebody give me a reasonable explanation? Why would they not want me to use this as a proof? Naturally, it would have a date printed and information about when it expires. I don't see a problem with doing that.

It's probably for liability reasons. They're willing to certify that they have no record of crimes by you on file but not that you've never committed a crime. It's a subtle but an important distinction that would make their life a whole lot easier if you're suddenly ousted as a convicted pedophile who somehow beat the system.

@58,051I think you misunderstood/didn't read my question.

I think it's so that corporations can't just force anyone who wants a job to show proof of never committing a crime, which is discrimination.

Protecting your rights as a citizen? If that was allowed to be seen by other people than you, then they can take advantage of your personal mistake and blow it out of proportion otherwise could have been left untouched?

@58,171What?! Doesn't anyone here fucking read before replying?! It would be my own choice to show the paper to other people,
obviously…

I don't know how this works in other countries, but here we have a system that works as follows:
If you have no criminal record or anything of the sort, you are eligible to request a document from authorities (community, police) which proves you have no prior convictions of any sort. It's pretty much mandatory if you want to work for the state (which is extremely funny since at least half of all people working for THIS government are downright crooks).
