The "settings" GUI box (and menu item) for MSIE (7, at least) is called "Internet Options". Not "Internet Explorer options" or simply "Options", but "Internet Options". As if the name of the Web browser, "Internet Explorer", wasn't already misleading enough…

Microsoft is trying to make people think of them as some kind of default. When I'm asking people what browser they use (e-mail support), I often get things like "Windows" or "Microsoft". Or they don't know what a browser is.

Those who answer "Windows" or "Microsoft" do?!

I don't know, they might be just guessing.

Do they really need to help? I've was talking to someone's son the other day. He said his Father wanted to get his old computer (which was not plugged in) out of the house, soon, so that his new computer wouldn't get the old one's viruses. *face palm*

The Internet Options control panel actually does control Internet Options, it's a front-end to the WinHTTP API in Windows. A good example of this is Google Chrome: it adopts its proxy settings from WinHTTP, you can't set custom proxy settings like you could in Firefox or Opera.
