The one that is built into Opera. Does its job very well.

I use the one that comes with Miranda. Not sure how that stacks up in comparison to the other ones

I use Irssi. mIRC is used by morons, don't bother with it.

mIRC is payware. That's enough to not recommend it.

Best option in my opinion would be to SSH to somewhere else and use screen+irssi (Windows user too, it's what I do). It has the added benefit of you being able to close the window and resume it later where you left off without having to sign off IRC when you reboot etc.

screen + irssi. It's the most sensible one when I want to be able to reach IRC from everywhere (with GPRS/EDGE) and be able to read the backlog and all.

@66,137Agreed. This, on a Debian VPS in Romania (coincidence), allows pretty reliable IRC access.

@66,052See I hate people like you. RIAA bullshit is one thing. Pirating because you're a cheap faggot that doesn't want to pay for something is another. mIRC is a really good client and Khaled worked hard on it and I don't feel bad about giving him $20. Honestly, if giving away $20 is so hard, you either need to get a better job or stop living in your parents' basement.

@66,206He didn't say to pirate it; he said to skip it.
I use a Firefox extension called ChatZilla.

@66,267My point was, why are people so against paying for products?

I've been using mIRC for years, and I've never paid a dime. All it asks me to do is register my trial version because my 30 days is up, then allows me to click "continue" and use it normally. No, I don't have a pirated or cracked version. I always assumed mIRC was more of a "donate if you like it" deal, and I never understood these people claiming that you had to pay for it.

@66,308I agree with your actual concern about a cultural meme of rejecting the concept of charging for software as if it were some sort of evil act.
At the same time, I don't see a problem with someone comparing two pieces of software, both of which will do what they want, and picking the free one.
That's just business.
