Femanons, please explain the mood changes during your period, what do you feel etc. I happen to notice that women are always irritated and a bit bitchy while on their period.

We can change our mood, just with the snap of your fingers. We don't controll the moodswings. It really sucks.

Yes, it does suck. I feel restless, annoyed, disaffected.

i was talking about this with a friend a long time ago

me -so, what are you thinking when you are saying stupid things during your period? things you know they are wrong, like… the sky is green (I don't know), but you say them anyway.. I mean, you can't see that they are wrong?

her -we can see that, we know it, but i've got the reason at that moment and no one can change that.

me -oh, now i see… ok, lets fuck

her - ok

I was under the impression that all the mood swings/pain/etc. came before the actual period (it's called pre-menstrual syndrome, after all). Am I missing something here?

The mood change is simple: Their superego is suppressed for the duration of their period. During that time frame, they act on impulse only a little more than usual. Their minds become like a child's - they feel desires very strongly and become very selfish, and completely lose their sense of compassion or social responsibility.

We get irrational and very emotional. And no matter how much we rationalize, we can't strip away the feeling. It really sucks.
And yes, it's PRE-menstrual syndrome. It carries over a little bit into the actual period, but it tapers off.

For me, its two weeks out of every month. I cry at anything pretty much, I eat everything in sight, I dont want to talk to anyone and if I do I most likely yell at them. Its the only time I get in fights, and I've actually lost potential boyfriends/friends over this since they didnt know how bad I get. Except its even worse since I have a syndrome that caused my hormones to be all out of whack during high school so I had all those symptoms constantly and it was horrible.

Two weeks out of every month? That's like half your life! I'm so sorry.

I get my period for a few days every month. I got it when I was eight (!!!) so I learned to deal with it very young. I get cramps and it feels like my insides are sore and achy, but my emotions don't change, and if they do, I keep it under check so as to not envoke annoying comments like, "Wow, that time of the month?" or "PMS much?". I get pretty horny though, luckily my husband doesn't give a shit about the blood. I also tend to get a little teary but never in a professional setting. I'm extremely good at keeping my emotions in check.

Lucky you! Usually I'm the same but during (or before) my period, I'm just not myself. I hiss at my boyfriend for no particular reason and seconds later burst into tears and apologize. I can't stand myself during this time. But he can deal with it - thank god.

Two weeks a month is really hard. For me it's about 4 or 5 days where I feel really moody. Are you taking the pill? Maybe you should try some other contraceptive, since the pill tends to make it worse.

Can't girls separate their consciousness and behaviour from their hormones? Even when I'm in a bad mood I might feel physiologically bad but realise it and still act normally.

Awareness of your PMS is pretty, after the fact, in my case.

Personally, I'm a lot more sensitive to everything. I'll cry when I watch a sad movie or I'll yell more when I'm angry.

It's not that I start my day off thinking, "Oh, look, PMS, guess I have to turn on my emotional switch."
