I'm grown up (it's been a decade since I actually went to the school), and I have bookmarked my old elementary school's Web site and regularly read stuff there. I want to become a teacher there, but they won't let me. There is no need for new teachers and I lack an education. Yet I am obsessed with getting a job there. It would be truly wonderful. Really.

Ah. Two new PDFs: "Quality report" and "Work plan 2009". Should be interesting reading. While I read the documents, it almost feels as if I am hired there, or as if I am a parent with a kid going there.

Keep the illusion alive, self… keep it alive…

Have you considered going to college and applying for a job after that?

I basically really don't want to or have the energy to do that. I want to get started working with kids right now. I know everything that I need to know to teach little kid.

There's a reason that a teacher should be an educated one. If you want to work with kids in that setting, you must get the education. :)

Yeah, like how to give proper head, how to keep the police from finding out, how to skip town on short notice, everything you need to know to work with young children.

You seem more concerned with the nostalgia that'll come with working at your old primary school than with actually teaching children. There's already enough teachers with a complete lack of interest in what they're doing. There's no need for another, thank you.

If you really wanted to be a teacher you'd want and have the energy to to to university.

While it's partly (painful) nostalgia indeed, I am genuinely interested in kids. Not in going to school again for years, however…

Whilst I'm sure there exists some job with children with which you don't need a (relevant) degree, you'll only be able to advance so far. You'll get to a dead end point where you'll need a degree to progress.
