people keep downloading stuff off limewire at my school, and they keep catching them and telling them to remove everything, or they'll be banned from the internet… some kids even have to pay for the music they downloaded. Does anyone know any ways to use limewire without getting caught?

I dont know any way's to get around bypassing a firewall. But i can say limewire is full of viruses and odds are you'r PC is going to become a steaming pile of shit due to it. Learn how to torrent, in my opinion its the best 'Free' way to get what you want.

Don't bother with limewire. Rapidshare, megaupload, zshare, etc, etc, are your new best friend.

I don't know if the school firewall bans P2P in general, but you could probably try to use different P2P programs if the firewall just bans access to certain P2P networks.

You shouldn't really be P2P'ing in school, let alone do it on their computers. It's a waste of time trying to negotiate your way through these Soviet-esque firewalls, stick to doing that shit at home.

1. Limewire is a terrible program. Good you're only using it on school computers, because the way Limewire works is that you are give a window into other people's computers basically.
2. As mentioned, using these software at school is NOT smart. Any semi-decent tech-department person in your school (assuming he's not apathetic) can catch you.
3. As mentioned, chances are you can get the files through filehosts such as Rapidshare, Megaupload and Mediafire. Just google around, and especially checking blogs dedicated to such files.
4. Torrents wouldn't be attempted at school, but it is definitely less prone to viruses, malware and the like especially if you use join private torrent sites.

If your schools security is lax enough to allow you to install limewire, then you can almost certainly install Tor. Add "ReachableDirAddresses *:80, *:443" and "ReachableORAddresses *80, *:443" to the Tor config, and set you P2P software to use a proxy at 127.0.0.1:9050. This will be slow, but should get past both port and header filtering.

I use limewire and I never really liked it. I am highly considering not using it anymore because of this thread. Thankfully, I don't go to a school where p2p is limited in any way.

Tor seems like the way to go, thanks
