I have a piece of work due in 8 hours, I've barely started so I will be up the majority of the night. But I was wondering If I would be drowsier on an hour of sleep than none at all! Any recommendation's for staying alert for the next 24 hours? Ive been up about 7 hours so far.

I find it to be better to stay up, may vary on the person I guess.

take a cat nap before you do it, 20 min to 30 min

I find it easier to stay awake for the next day if I had no sleep as opposed to four or five hours of sleep. I'd assume that the same would be true for only one or two hours of sleep. However, some people say that taking short 30 minute naps are extremely refreshing when you will be up for a long time. I don't know if one or two hours would be considered a nap, but it might work out that way.

In your situation, I would simply stay up the whole time. Play an addicting video game and drink caffeine. If really feel like you need to sleep, do it. You'll know you've done things correctly if you don't feel like you need to sleep throughout the whole two days. If you did not do it correctly, your performance will seriously suffer.

Thanks anon, I was considering the whole catnap idea. I've heard they do it in the army for 45 minute periods. I'm pretty sure if I go to bed I may not be able to wake up in the morning. I think if it gets to like 5 or something I probably won't bother sleeping. Only 3 and a half hours left, I'll see how much i get done!

Actually, I'm thinking the exact same thing as the previous repliers. I have to get up in five hours, but I couldn't sleep so here I am.

What works for me is one of those large energy drinks, like a Rockstar. I can't sleep even if I want to for at least 12 hrs after drinking one, and I'm a daily coffee drinker. It all depends on how it affects your body, but I know that works for me.

I find sleeping less than 3 hours to be tiring. 4h or so is pretty ok and lets you restore at least some energy, but 2h is definitely to short and you cannot wake properly after that. You are just mindfucked, so i would stay awake. The other problem is that staying up makes you feel ok, but you can think too good even if you reckon you do, ie smth like having weed

I often find myself more refreshed from one hour of sleep than none, or even a full night's rest.

sleeping is better than having no sleep at all, trust me. I've pulled all-nighters for countless number of exams in college.
