Scenario 1:
It's somewhere in the 1700's. You are poor and your neighbor is better off. You are jealous. You make up a rumor that you saw your neighbors dancing around a campfire at midnight with a goat. Result: they get burned at the stake (or die proving their innocence by drowning or whatnot), you get lauded for your 'sense of community' and probably take a certain percentage of their belongings. Most of it, of course, goes to the church and state who will happily use it to further the same tactics in order to expand their power & wealth.
Scenario 2:
It's somewhere in the 2000's. You are intelligent and critical of how the modern world works. You voice your opinion once too many and in the wrong spot, someone takes serious offense (after all, truth is a dangerous thing).
All they have to do is ACCUSE you of having child porn or being a sexual predator. Proof is absolutely not necessary whatsoever - by the time a court has cleared your name, your family will have disowned you, your friends will have left you and legal troubles will have destroyed your finances while you can't get a job because of your undeserved reputation.

This is, by and large, the grandest affront to free speech in hundreds of years. This has nothing to do with pedophiles and child porn per sé; it's merely a crutch they use to stifle public opinion. To frighten masses into becoming pitchfork-and-torch-bearing mobs. After all, you couldn't POSSIBLY be in FAVOR of a PEDOPHILE, right?
It's also incredibly easy for courts to ignore evidence that would aqcuit you (I refer you to the teenage boy story who had a zombie pc that distributed cp without his knowledge, almost landing him life in prison for something he didn't do).

Mark my words; in the next decade, when you speak up about something that certain… groups do not approve of, you will find yourself the target of a dawn raid and - lo and behold - there WILL be 'evidence' on your hd that you cannot refute, no matter how innocent you are. After all, their forensic experts' word against yours…

Prepare for a unified world police state in maximum 10 years time. I fully expect to be one of the first to receive the above-mentioned state-sactioned visit.

I noticed that. I was about to reply and the thread mysteriously vanished. I posted my reply anyway as a new thread (http://www.anontalk.com/topic/13549) but I find it hard to see how anyone could call all 40 of the posts in that thread trolling. There were a few chan type comments, but most were serious and many were well thought out and definitely didn't deserve to be deleted.

Sysop, if you made a mistake and clicked the wrong button, please just admit it and apologize. Everyone makes mistakes sometimes, it's no big deal.
