it's kind of weird but my screen is way too dark. Theres a lot of pictures i cant see, especially night photos. playing around with the manual settings on the monitor, the brightness and contrast is the highest possible. anybody know of anything i can do?

If it's a CRT monitor and it's still mostly dark on highest settings, get a new one ;)
Also:
Look for a "gamma" adjust in your graphic card's driver options, play around with that.

If it is a backlit monitor, like my laptop, turn up the backlighting.

Try a different monitor with the same computer, and see if that makes any difference, before you try sending the monitor back or anything.
