Topic: New tiny but (probably) useful feature

Now, when you preview your reply to a topic, if somebody has posted a reply since you last checked the topic, it will tell you about this. I get the feeling that this could be useful in some subtle ways…

Very useful indeed.

I desire a feature that is in this same vein.

It would be very nice if when you click "cite" in order to respond to a post, the cited post were to appear in the new_reply page above the text input box. This way, you could be sure that your response sufficiently (and succinctly) addresses all of the issues that you want to address in the referenced post.

In actual practice, I generally compromise by using the "quote" feature on posts that I actually want to "cite". This enables me to read the post to which I'm responding while I write my response. Unfortunately, I occasionally forget to delete the quote before finalizing the post, especially since I've gotten used to seeing that text there. This mistake, of course, earns me an expletive-laden nastygram.

@70,271

Yes, this would be very useful, I often find myself quoting, and then turning it into a citation in order to remember specifically what I am replying to.
