Topic: Should you lie to your kids about Santa Claus?

Anonymous A started this discussion topic 8 months (2008-11-06 00:24:45 UTC) ago (#15,182):

What is the reason that parents do this? Aren't most little kids afraid of this mysterious creature? I can't see much point in this. You don't even get to take credit for the presents you buy…

Convince me why I should lie to my future kids about him.

I've always wondered this and I ALWAYS get shit from my family when I say I won't be lying to my children. I'm interested in seeing the responses.

Santa Claus is practice Jesus. Simple as that. If you are are a Christian and you want a story for your kids just say Jesus brings presents, he's that cool. How can he travel the world in one night? He's the son of God. Aren't you the one who buys the presents? Yes, through Jesus' spirit.

Consider it a test of how long it takes for kids to learn to think for themselves.

That's actually a great idea.

I consider it as a test of how long it takes kids to learn that their parents lie to them. At least that's what happened when my mother was a kid and found out that Santa isn't real. She was just struck by this horrible feeling. How could her own parents, the people she trusted the most, have lied to her?

That's the reason my parents didn't tell me lies about Santa.

OP: Don't lie to your kids. It's just horrible.

either don't do it, or go all out and lie to them horribly by telling them it's a monster tempting them with items filled with poison and tracking devices that will eventually render them paranoid and demented.

When I was a little kid I passed out beside the Christmas tree hoping to catch Claus in the act. Sadly couldn't be done but the tree was loaded with presents. Maybe it's my experience by itself but I think it's just time to believe and have fun, I agree that some people could be using it as a way to set the kid up for belief in Jesus but until I see that it's always just fun.

I had people telling me he doesn't exist my whole life, and he doesn't of course. But it didn't come as such a shock that I was destroyed or something and I'm certain theres more than one on here who got on with they're life when they found out. Yes it was a lie but what was the harm? Believing in magic and having some fun? Horrifying.

It might just be the fact that I am a pedo, but I'm just unable to see how lying to children is better than not lying. Why can't you just be honest with the people who don't question you?

Everything always comes back to being a fucking pedophile. You guys are worse then fucking femanons at retardchan. If it has nothing to do with the topic, don't fucking mention it. It automatically makes me disregard everything you have to say.

So exactly like the femanons of retardchan :P.

Also, I agree with your point, that was an uncalled-for play of the pedo card, almost completely irrelevant to the topic.

I'm not so sure, we pedos think we are generally more caring and sensitive of children's needs. A lot of parents ignore their children and seem to have forgotten what it's like to be a kid. But pedos, I think are often much more uh, in touch, lol.

Please see my article I wrote that I published in Digg: "Newsflash: Santa Claus is Pretend!" Unfortunately it didn't gather much interest.
