Topic: I have mottephobia

Anonymous A started this topic 9 months (2009-07-02 23:35:?? UTC) ago (#28,768):

If you don't know what that is, mottephobia is a fear of moths. I really hate them, I actually feel physically sick when I see a big one. I shiver and sweat. I feel like running for the hills, but I'm rooted to the spot. It's really ruining my summer, as they fly in through my window at night and make me paranoid. I can't close my window, as it is really hot at night right now. Does anyone here know of any way that I can get over this fear?

Thanks a lot, AnTs.

You could hang a net in your window, like that they can't fly in anymore.

That would solve the problem of them getting into my house, but it wouldn't help me get over my fear.

We're not psychologists, and we can't provide any "get over your fear quick" scheme for you. You need to go to a specialist who can help you get over your fear.

I got over my fear of spiders by capturing an house centipede (check them out on wikipedia, they are much more horrible than spiders) and at first observing it lurking in the box, then when I was able to look at it without fear, I tried to touch it and finally I made it run on my hand. After this I got over my fear of spiders and insects. Try to do the same with a big moth.

Nonsense! I can help you, OP!

First you need to find a rainbow and then follow it until you reach Moth Island. Once you get there, you need to find the Moth King; you'll know it's him because he is the biggest moth that ever existed ever. Talk to him about your problem and he will give you a magical quest that will cure you of your fear. Good luck, OP!

Capture a moth. Start small (like the ones that hang around lamps at night). Trap it in a jar and slowly torture it. Use tweezers to pull off its wings and use fire to scorch its body. It is then that you will realize how insignificant and harmless moths are.
When I was a young lad, I use to trap moths in my drink bottle at lunchtime and at the end of lunch I'd find ways to kill them all.

This seems like it would work, now if we could apply the same logic to social phobia.

@171,977

That is a pretty good idea, I may try that.

Thanks.

Hilarious. Have you ever considered the stand-up comedy circuit?
