Topic: Why are Mac users so full of themselves?

Anonymous A started this topic 9 months (2009-07-03 03:14:?? UTC) ago (#28,791):

Almost every Mac user I know is convinced beyond any sort of reason that their computer is in every way superior to any non-Mac, and even when shown objectively that they simply aren't better, they start telling you that "you're just mad because you're too poor to afford a Mac".

They're almost religious in their fervor. Why is this?

Elitism. However, in terms of elitism, Linux users are much more full of themselves.

I am a Mac user, and I can do nothing but agree with you. Almost every single Mac user is incredibly annoying, impossible to listen to, and almost impossible to convince that Windows does beat Mac at several things.

I was like this when I first got my Mac - I guess I was so astonished by the speed and simplicity of the system, and I still love it for this… but I'm actually (heavily) considering to build my own Windows computer, so I can at last play some games… It sickens me to this day, that Mac can't do shit apart from editing music and videos.

I prefer Macs, but I installed Windows XP with Bootcamp so I can have full compatibility with a larger variety of software. Namely, games. It's great to be able to use both OS's and seamlessly switch between them. Though having used both OS's, I can say that each have their own advantages and disadvantages. Although I'm not in love with XP, I can easily see why some people prefer it to Leopard or Linux. Are Windows Computers cheaper? Yes. Do they have greater compatibility with a large suite of software? Yes. But it isn't as streamlined and clean as the Macintosh OS is. I don't like the Mac ads, showing a Mac as a cool, hip and new age guy, and the PC a bumbling dork as these stereotypes don't exactly hold true. You can't day that a Mac is better and superior in every way to a machine running Windows, nor can you say the Windows computer is better. They each have faults, and they each have advantages. I just happen to prefer Macs.

Jesus, Mac users are getting as bad as the Jews.

I've been a Mac user all my life and I don't give a shit about what PC users or other Mac users think. I do my thing and I honestly don't care about yours. I use Windows for games and it's fine. In the end all we're doing is moving files around, I don't really understand why people get so upset about their choice in OS (unless we're talking about 13 year olds).

From my perspective, the only people I've ever met who get all high and mighty and puffed up about their operating system are fucking Windows users. I don't think I've really seen a Mac user getting arrogant about Macs but i've seen A LOT of PC users go on and on and on about how macs are shit.

It's all bullshit with you windows fanboys, most of you whine and complain about how arrogant mac users are and in the same breath call macs 'fucking pieces of shit don't hold a candle to pcs etc etc etc'

I personally prefer Macs for their ease of use for myself. I however prefer PC's for gaming, seeing as how most if not all computer games are made on and for PC's first.

That makes perfect sense, of course.

I suppose you are right. I do give a shit about the hypocrisy of PC users. What I meant was that I don't give a shit about how your leet modcase boxxorz is better than whatever, or how awesome some random Mac user thinks they are.

If you're so awesome go out and do something awesome, stop trumpeting around about how great the tool you use is.

You've never seen a Mac user arrogant about their OS? Have you been living under a rock? Apple has just about the worst fanboys of any culture aside from Honda. Iphones, computers, Ipods etc, people are constantly spouting shite about how much better they are than the opposition

Oh, sweet irony.

If you get close enough, you can actually feel the smugness emanating off your screen!

Sorry, but you make no sense. I fail to see what is ironic about that statement, since saying someone is arrogant and annoying does not make one arrogant or annoying, you fucking moron.

"hurr libruls". Your statement only serves as a shallow attack on a group that you dislike, and contributes to the discussion only on a superficial level. You're either trying to divert the topic, or you just had to seize the opportunity to make your unrelated opinion known. Your generalizations about large groups of people reeks of arrogance on your part, and as for annoying, well I'm certainly annoyed every time someone does this, whether they be a conservative, liberal, pedo, anti, white supremacist, christian, atheist, etc.

I'm an aesthete so I just love the great design of mac hardware and software—most PCs are just ugly (although in the last couple of years some nice looking PCs have come out, the interface for most software is just ugly). Also the ease of use thing. Macs just work like they should. I produce music on mine and it is always a pleasure—in my experience, using protools on a PC sucks. Having said that I can see that if you are a full on geek then the ability to pull your PC apart and make it better is a big thing for you. If I had that good geek knowhow I might use PCs. If I had a PC I would certainly want to do something to improve it.

I'm willing to pay more for all this. But hey, I'm just a liberal, what would I know?

I think some of the fanboy stuff is a reaction against the PC fascists bagging of our 'ware. Their bagging probably started because of fanboy-ism though. It's a vicious circle.
