If it's anything like the first time I smoked (at about that age) I coughed and hacked for a couple of hours. I didn't look anywhere near that cool.
How a nicotine addiction didn't take hold I'll never know since I seemed to pick up just about every other bad habit. I'd swipe my Dad's cigarettes from the carton he kept on top of the fridge and split the pack with my buds. One day the carton wasn't there and I just knew I was busted. Later, when he stopped and bought a couple of packs, I asked him why he wasn't buying them by the carton anymore. He told me that he smoked them too fast when he bought a carton… I had to turn my head to keep him from seeing me smiling.

I don't know you, but every 60-year old that I know is very strong, good looking and full of life. They also never smoked. On the other hand I know other people aged less than fifty, already decrepit and gross sounding from emphisema, carrying around oxygen because at this late hour they found out that life is worth living, even after being crippled by ciggies.
If my little girlfriend wanted to smoke I would find some way to help her see that smoking destroys health. >:(

The shit you inhale is a delicious mixture of carcinogens, chemicals that can fuck up your cells (in any number of ways, I could list several dozen) and make them become cancerous. The best part about smoking is, it's technically a roulette. I could smoke a pack a day for ten years and be fine (although this isn't likely) or I could smoke a pack a week for ten years and develop lung cancer. It's highly dependent on your own genetics, which is why cancer seems to sometimes run in families.
