What do you think the major governments would do if one day, a convoy of alien space ships were flying past earth (like in between earth and the moon) going someplace. I think that if the US ever saw some shit like that, they'd instantly go on an attack, without reason. They'd try to capture a bunch of them and then tell the citizens of the earth that it was all a hoax by some rich millionare (who'd they either pay or threaten to agree).

Errrrr….
I remember reading this really well thought out document someone had written once. It surmised that any contact between us and another race would begin with war. In fact, we would have to attack right away, and so would the aliens. Fucked if I can remember the logic behind it but it made perfect sense when reading it.
Either way, unless they communicate way ahead, and peacefully, we will attack and lose.

The human race does not currently have the capacity to attack something outside of our atmosphere, especially not if it's in transit. Therefore, no war would ensue. And the government doesn't have control over worldwide observatories so there would be no asymmetry of information.

Yes true. It was a paper written for IF we did have that sort of capacity. I would love to find it again, it was a great read.

What do you think ANTS would do if one day, a convoy of GRASSHOPPERS were flying past earth (like in between earth and the moon) going someplace. I think that if the US ever saw some shit like that, they'd instantly go on an attack, without reason. They'd try to capture a bunch of them and then tell the citizens of the earth that it was all a hoax by some rich millionare (who'd they either pay or threaten to agree).
What humans would do is the same as what ants would do if a grasshopper lands on their anthill.

@18,654Space rockets heavily modify the technology of weapons for Earth-bound war before they work in space; plus the physics behind it is very different. Launching our weapons into space would be more than a matter of just pointing our rockets up and firing.

the US could point rockets up and start firing, but a crap load of rockets and even bigger rockets and maybe a turtle… yes a turtle
