You don't know any of the persons involved. The two parties are each in a chamber which will either have its door opened or be filled with toxic gas, depending on your choice. There is no way to save both or avoid having to make this decision.

Explain your choice.

I for one would let both groups die. I would only ask one thing of the captors. I would ask that I would be the one to throw the switch, the action which resulted in all of their deaths. If no one would ever know, I would save neither and laugh. If the media found out, I would save the men and fake cry to tell people how much I wanted to save the girls but just couldn't because it was against my moral policy.

These questions are amazing tho, and Bladerunner is definitely one of my all-time favorite movies. The tests used to define whether or not I was of Genius were (at age 9) the Stanford-Binet form LM, followed a few years later by the Cattell. I scored in the septuple nines (the 99.99999?th percentile). Sorry for not being more exact with the least significant digit. There simply aren't many of us, only 30 persons in the USA who rank within the septuple nines — thus I wish to retain my anonymity here.

I am surprised that you thought I mistook the fictional Voight-Kampff as an actual test of intelligence however. I only added the test questions for dramatic effect. Yes, I loves teh drama. ☺

I would gladly kill 10,000 rather than 10 — and so would you! The requisite of course, that you are among the 10 being spared. ☺ Otherwise you would either be a realist (like me), or a brute.

How many of us would gladly trade 100,000 or even a million strangers to save our own worthless hides? I know I would. Fuck, I'd trade a billion people to save my own sorry life. At least I'm honest. ☺

The lolis, because it is double-positive. Ten more lolis than otherwise = a slightly better world. Ten thousand less random men = also, a slightly better world. Not much of a choice in my opinion.

My answer depends on the circumstances. I know there are more possibilities, but here is my answer to a few:

* Last people on earth (me + 10,000 men OR me + 10 girls)
The girls. The species must live on.

* No special circumstances.
The men. More of them than the girls, therefore more lives saved. Many outweight the few for me. I try to value human life equally, so 10,000 > 10, since 1 = 1. If it were a question of 10,000 girls vs. 10,000 boys, then I would have to break that rule somehow and evaluate on other criteria.

* For every person I save, I must spend a day in some sort of prison.
I would like to think I would still pick the men. It would suck for me (perhaps be fatal depending on what kind of conditions the prisons had), but it would benefit a larger group and serve a greater purpose. Plus I might be able to guilt some of those men into doing favors for me.
