Why is this so "popular"? Or is it not? Maybe it's just some old Big Tobacco-sponsored Hollywood tradition?

Smoking cigarettes relaxes people because it makes their heart beat faster, leading to a relaxing effect as their heart goes back to resting rate. You would be tense after sex, so it would feel good to relax afterwords.
